Why the Name, Fiona Like From Shrek?
Having a somewhat unique name has led to me repeating it countless times throughout my life. It’s easily misspelled/misheard/mispronounced. Over the years, I’ve found it so much easier to relate my name to the popular movie that most people seem to know. Especially in my current job, I’m on the phone with people nearly all day every day. When I introduce myself, it’s essentially become my tagline “Hi, my name is Fiona, like from the movie Shrek.” which usually also gets a laugh out of whomever I’m speaking with and sets the tone for a lighthearted and happy conversation. Not that this saying has become my personality by any means, but I feel it’s almost a part of me in a sense. Plus, I do love making people laugh.
Why Do I Want to Live a Slower Pace of Life?
I was born and raised a country girl. We raised chickens and ducks, had a garden, and it was two hours to the nearest Walmart. I’m talking RURAL. Some of you probably cringe at the thought of “basic amenities” being so far away or worry about the fact that it’s the same distance to the nearest big hospital. But life there was beautiful and different. Sure, we didn’t always have the nicest things and we weren’t going out to super nice restaurants every weekend, but we had something much better. Our small community was just that, a community. Very close-knit, always willing to help out those who were struggling. When my mom was going through her cancer treatments, our town rallied around us in support. Living this far removed from the hustle and bustle of city life also meant we were living a whole different pace of life. Aside from doctors appointments and work, there was no real time crunch to do anything or go places. Personally, I felt so much less stressed and unburdened. I feel like a whole different person when we aren’t living the city lifestyle and rushing from one place to another.
Mine and Sean’s whole relationship, we’ve lived in the city. With our move to Fort Wayne coming up, we’ll be on the outskirts of the city for a while, but here’s to hoping and praying that our dream home of an old farmhouse on a few acres comes on the market when we start house hunting. We would love to give our sons (and any future children) the blessing of slower living, giving them the space to explore and learn and grow like I had growing up. I’m so excited to share that part of our journey with you all when the time comes.
“Fiona Like From Shrek” Is a Whole Lifestyle—Here’s What It Really Means
Let’s talk about the art of living simply, loving yourself deeply, and not caring what the world thinks. It’s a vibe. A way of life. A return to something real.
At fionalikefromshrek.com, we’re reclaiming what that really means: grounded, peaceful, a little wild, and entirely unbothered. This is your invitation to join the soft rebellion. Here’s how.
What Does It Mean to Be Living Simply?
It’s less about pop culture and more about presence. Simple life is about:
- Choosing comfort over performance
- Prioritizing your peace
- Finding joy in quiet routines and muddy boots
- Embracing natural beauty, unfiltered moments, and slow mornings
- Living closer to the earth, to your truth, and to the things that actually matter
You don’t need a kingdom. You need a kettle on the stove, good dirt under your nails, and people (or pets) who really get you.
5 Signs You’re Living the “Simple” Lifestyle
1. You Crave a Slower Pace
You’re not here for hustle culture. You’d rather spend an afternoon tending your garden or walking barefoot in the grass than chasing some digital dopamine hit.
2. You’ve Decluttered More Than Your Closet
You’re clearing mental space too—saying no to performative perfection and yes to what actually nourishes you. That includes boundaries, deep rest, and genuine connection.
3. You Romanticize the Everyday
Lighting a candle while making soup. Putting on soft music during chores. Turning the mundane into the magical is your love language.
4. You’re a Little Wild, In All the Right Ways
You might talk to animals. You definitely sing to yourself. Your joy doesn’t need to be understood—it just needs to be felt.
5. You’re Rooted, Not Stuck
You know the difference between staying still and staying grounded. You’re not running from yourself. You’re finally catching up to who you’ve always been.

Pull up a chair. The kettle’s on. The air smells like lavender and rain. And the only rule?
Be yourself. Fully. Quietly. Loudly. Boldly.
